Always on the lookout for something different, Jed Steele son Quincy discovered sparkling Shiraz, an Aussie tradition, while working at the Drenburg Winery. Bringing home the idea of a Northern California version inspired Jed to formulate a unique Syrah blend from some of his finest contracted vineyards in Lake County. The final Syrah blend was finished at Steele Wines, using a mix of French and American oak barrels. It was then sent off to a sparkling wine producer to be infused with bubbles. It came back as effervescent, crisp and lively Black Bubbles. The Shooting Star wines are produced primarily using fruit from the same vineyard sources as Steele. Fruit that doesn't quite have the intensity for the winemaking treatment applied to the Steele wines are used to produce lighter, more every day drinking styles of wine. They also use the Shooting Star label as a vehicle for some fun, lesser-known varietals such as Aligote, Lemberger and Barbera.
